Emma Morgan-Laverty couldn’t believe her eyes as she peered into the neonatal intensive care incubator at her newborn daughter. “She looks like that little alien baby from the Space Raiders crisps packet,” she exclaimed to her husband, Andy. Their daughter, Myah, was born in February 2018 with a severe buildup of fluid around her brain.
Every day brought new anguish as the fluid increased by about 0.5cm. Despite the odds stacked against her and facing multiple high-risk operations, their “little fighter” defied expectations and survived. Now three years old, Emma describes Myah as “nothing short of a miracle,” able to chatter and walk with the aid of a frame.
